Genesis

Nearly one year ago, as I was coming back from lunch, my iPhone chimed with a calendar invite notification for a meeting to start in an hour.  As I tromped up the steps back into the office, I said to myself, "They're probably going to lay me off."

I don't profess to be a prophet, psychic, or anything of the like.  However, I have witnessed too many sobering moments where the volume of my internal instincts silences the annoying buzz of the uncertainties.  The words fell from my lips without a single thought.  I knew what this was.

Within hours, my project was de-chartered, a bright yellow folder with severance terms was handed over, and the trajectory of my year shifted dramatically.  I found myself standing at a fork in the road, faced with a decision to journey the unchartered or comfortably trot towards complacency.  Over the months to follow, I danced at that intersection, toiling with the fear of failure.  I knew it was time for something different.  So, I spent a significant amount of time in self-discovery, uncovering my personal makeup and assessing my strengths. I knew that a career along the path that I was trudging would never leverage my full skill-set or maximize my true potential.  It was the same feeling that I felt when the meeting notification banner with the cryptic title popped up on my phone.  It was time to venture into the unknown.

So, step by step, I began the journey of aligning my professional pursuits with my purpose.  With each step, my confidence has grown and my sense of certainty has heightened.  Today marks one milestone of many more to come.
